In 1954, Arellano University opened a School of Nursing which offered a Basic Nursing Course. The first Principal of the School of Nursing was Rosario B. Cinco, followed by Teofista Villarica and Josefina Penalosa. In April 1960, the School of Nursing expanded its curricular offering by adding courses in post-basic nursing with majors in Public Health and Clinical Teaching. The first batch of General Nursing Program graduated in 1960
In 1964, Trinidad M. Verano became the Dean of the School of Nursing. In that same year, the School of Nursing was renamed, the College of Nursing and launched its 5-year Baccalaureate Program, leading to the degree of Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
The five-year BSN program was reduced to four (4) years in 1976. At the same time, the College of Nursing offered a BSN Supplemental Program for nurses who were then holders of a graduate course diploma. The Program ran for eight years and was eventually phased out by the Department of Education Culture and Sports .The four-year BSN Program was revised and was replaced by a Community and Competency-Based Program
In 1980, there was a simultaneous graduation of the two programs, the 4-year course and the 5-year BSN course. Of the same year, Praxedes Dela Rosa was appointed , OIC, during the absence of Dean Verano , who went abroad with Executive Secretary, Clarita D. Curato, and eventually appointed as Dean .During her term, rigid training on the revised BSN curriculum for the nursing faculty was strictly enforced. In 1988, the college inaugurated the Reading Room,(2nd floor) with reference books donated by the Asia Foundation.These books are now in the Main Library.
In 1989, Clarita D. Curato was appointed dean of the college of nursing until 2000 followed by Belen A.Antonio, 2000-04.
Francisco P.V. Cayco, Summer 2004 and Remigia Lorenzo 2004-2006. Her significant contribution is the Arellano University
Nursing Society Song which she composed a few years ago and revived in 2004.
Mrs Rosita B. Bulanadi was appointed dean of the college in 2006,continued the efforts of the former deans and faculty members in pursuing the Level I PACUCOA Accreditation that we obtained on September,2006. During that time , there a lot of program enhancement that helped nursing students in passing the board exams and several topnotchers!
Today, Mr. Roberto S. Sombillo, our current Dean and the Faculty Members are working hand in hand to improve further the standard of nursing education. The approval of the Level II PACUCOA Accreditation is the manifestation of an improved quality education standard prevailing in the college. Now , the Arellano University College of Nursing is proud to claim that she has produced topnotchers in the Nurses Board Exams, globally competitive professional, successful nurses, and will continue to gear towards the next level of quality instructions for our future nurses!
